How you can help

17 Apr 2007 / Dave / blurbs

For anyone affected in any way, the staff are available to talk at these numbers and emails. Jim has been overwhelmed with calls and emails so please contact him only in an emergency.

Please post public encouragement, prayers, or condolences here rather than through our contact page. That way more people can view them rather than just the webmaster. Thank you so much for your love.

If you know of family or helpers who need places to stay, we have many homes in the area with space, contact us.

As always, pray for wisdom and sensitivity to the Spirit. His grace is enough.

One idea to help might be to host a card/picture party: get together with a group of friends to pray for VT, make positive encouragement cards for individual students, dress up in orange and maroon and take a picture of yourselves holding a sign “WE LOVE VT” or something like that. Send care packages to PO Box 111 Blacksburg, VA 24061 and we’ll distribute.

I was interviewed on the Christian radio station yesterday about the situation & was asked the same question. My summary answer is below:

    1) First of all, obviously, just pray. For wisdom, discernment, comfort, and forgiveness.

    2) Try to understand….just listen. Be there to listen. Many people are going to want to talk. This will reverberate across every campus across the country. It’s worse than Columbine. Many will have questions they want to ask. Be there to listen. And be bold. This is an opportunity for the gospel to go forth powerfully. Pray for arms and hearts and hands to be an extension of God.

That is my prayer for you all. My heart, especially, goes out to the residence hall’s staff and students, having been a hall director for 8 years elsewhere. My mind reels with the numerous details that must be going on, and I can’t even touch the surface. So from one Student Services professional to another, my prayers go before the Throne of Grace on your behalf.

    Your sister in Christ,

    Sue
